Ogun State government has empowered 3,000 rural women with 30,000 Boiler chicken across the three Senatorial Districts in the Second Phase of its Noiler Empowerment Programme. Speaking at the programme in Ijebu-Ode, Ilaro and Abeokuta, the Deputy Governor, Chief Mrs. Yetunde Onanuga said the initiative was to improve capacity of women, especially the rural ones.

She added that government embarked on the second phase after the success and testimonies of the first phase when 10,000 birds were given out to 1,000 rural women in April. Onanuga therefore urged beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity so that it can improve the protein of their families and in long run add to the food security in the state. She reminded the women of the need to key into various agricultural programs in the state, specifically designed for them.

Earlier, Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs. Peju Adebajo said the seven weeks old Broiler birds distributed is a cross breed between Broiler and Layers, which makes them stronger and easier to rear just like the local breeds. Three of the beneficiaries, Tope Akinlade from Ogun West, Toiba Osinubosi from East and Biola Odejide from Central Senatorial Districts thanked the state government for the good gesture. They however, urged the state government to extend the programme to all the 20 Local Councils and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of the state
